I hate to be Mr. Negative, but I'm with Shedder on this one. I don't like Bozzio's playing. Lots of drums!!! WOW!!! He can play the Black Page, I'll give him that, but I'm not a fan of his style. I saw him play at House Of Blues with Chad Wackerman, and he didn't do anything for me. I thought Wackerman was much more interesting.

well, I gotta say, I've seen Bozzio a number of times and own some of his tapes including the one with Wackerman.

I don't like the ostinato stuff. I appreciate it like we all do but as a listener I don't get anything out of it.

However, I do enjoy Bozzio's playing when he's playing more conventional music. I thought he played some really beautiful stuff on Black Light Syndrome with Tony Levins and Steven Stevens. His whole Eastern/snares off vibe worked GREAT in that group and music.

Also, last clinic I saw he closed with a "normal" drum solo. That is, much more conventional in style. Groove, fill, groove, fill, amazing double bass here, hand foot lick there.... it was pretty freakin badass.

i saw bozzio with jeff beck & jan hammer during the "guitar shop" tour (stevie ray vaughn was the opener, my only live experience before his untimely death). i was stunned to find that almost everyone stuck around for jeff beck & he did not dissapoint. it was the most amazing display of a packed areana (miami) completely getting_OFF on these beautiful, thematic, fusion tunes with insane melodies & changes. bozzio was magic & just built the intensity level like crazy.

but i agree on the TB's solo stuff, it doesn't thrill me or make me say "wow" just seems academic & like a wood-shed exercise. the sound sources & textures are cool but that is about it.

also, wackerman is amazing. i have this live tape i listen to of him, holdworth, skoolie sverson (sp?) & mike hunt (sp? keys.) that i recorded covertly in a Florida club. he knew the tunes & form better than anyone else in the band it seemed. and an amazing , music, non-cliche solo.

Out of all the Tapes I've purchased i have to say that, the "Terry Bozzio live" is probably the ONLY one that when i watch it, i see/hear something new or different to which i didn't before.
Theres alot going on all at ONCE to take in i find....the guys incredible and has admitted his technique aint the greatest or, that he cant do what Mangini-Lang or Minneman can do.

For someone who sounds like an octopus i dig his frankness on his abilities. How many others have stretched themselves as he has though AND in a way changed direction as Miles did. Most drummers are still just drumming not forwarding the instrument as HE is. trhat you cant take away from him. Didn't HE push the boundaries of drumming when he recorded the Black page? How many other drummers are earning a living playing Solo drums?

Chad wackerman is Incredible especially for Holdsworths music, I prefer him over vinnie with alans stuff.
I dont know if thats because i bought the Road games album when it first came out but to me, he makes Holdsworths albums/music Breath.

So many GREAT players we're spoilt for choice.
